Tumblr can be a very amusing place. And it can be a very disturbing too. And I'm not complaining, not at all.
I was there, tumblring, when I saw a post about an art thief. And I got curious. I went to hers gallery, but was too late. She already had deleted everything. But I kept wondering. Why do a person steal someone's work?
It seems like a very complex question. And as a very complex question, it might come with a very complex answer.
But no. The answer is very, very simple.
It's because they're afraid. They are afraid of doing their own work. Because, when you're a young artist, you're always afraid that someone would not like your art. So, it's easy to just re-draw what someone has already drawn and what people already love.
What they don't know it's if they keep doing that, they won't evolve as artists. The person who they stole the art has, probably, practice enough to do that very piece once or twice if she/he wants to. And she/he can do it from the very beginning. But you'll never can if you don't try to make your own art.
There's a lot of tutorials out there. There's a lot of "studies" out there. I've used a lot of them. I bet a lot of popular artists have used them once, at least. Don't be ashamed to use it. They are there to help you. And you should be too.
Art stealing it's not cool, guys.
